Somali army destroy four explosives-rigged vehicles in Hiiraan region

    Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali National Army (SNA), supported by international partners, conducted an anti-al Shabab operation in the Mukayle area in the Bulaburte district of the Hiiraan region on Tuesday morning.

    The federal government said in a statement that the joint forces targeted an oversized garage where the group had been preparing explosive devices. The troops destroyed several vehicles that had been rigged for explosions.

    "The National Army neutralized four vehicles that the Khawarij had planted with explosives intended to harm the Somali people. Several militants, who were trained to carry out these explosive attacks, were eliminated at the location," the statement said.

    However, the federal government did not disclose the number of militants killed during the operation but emphasized it would provide information about the casualties.

    Meanwhile, on Sunday, Somali Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre announced initiating the second phase of the anti-al Shabab operation in the country. He revealed that the operation against al-Shabaab in Galmudug and Hirshabelle States would conclude shortly, with the subsequent operation slated for Jubbaland and the South West regions.
