Mogadishu (HOL) — EgyptAir will begin direct flights from Cairo to Mogadishu on July 11, enhancing connectivity and economic ties between Egypt and Somalia. The airline will operate twice-weekly flights to Somalia's capital, reflecting Egypt's broader strategy to improve African air connectivity.

Somali Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Ali Abdi Awaare, welcomed the announcement, highlighting the benefits for people in both countries by facilitating travel and fostering bilateral relations.

In addition to Mogadishu, EgyptAir will also launch routes to Abidjan, Ivory Coast, and Djibouti. Flights to Abidjan will commence on July 9, operating three times a week, while the Cairo-Djibouti-Mogadishu route will operate twice weekly from July 11, using Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

Ahmed Moalim Hassan, General Manager of the Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA), recently welcomed a delegation from the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority and EgyptAir to Mogadishu. The delegation's visit was crucial for finalizing preparations for the new route, ensuring that Aden Abdulle International Airport is ready for the upcoming flights.

With these new routes, EgyptAir will expand its network to 26 destinations across Africa. The airline plans to increase this number to 32 by 2028, with future destinations including Dakar in Senegal, Luanda in Angola, Cape Town in South Africa, Bamako in Mali, Harare in Zimbabwe, and Lusaka in Zambia.
