Preliminary results announced: Kaah Party leads Nugal Regional Council elections

Garowe (HOL) — The Puntland Election Commission announced the preliminary results of the local council elections in the Nugal region, revealing a close race between major parties.

In Garowe, the Kaah party, led by President Deni, secured 12 seats, while the Horseed party followed with six seats. Sincad party won 5 seats, and the Mideeye, Shaqaalaha, Runcad, Mustaqbal, and Ifiye parties each claimed two seats. Notably, 9 out of the 33 council seats were won by women.

Kaah, holding the majority with 12 seats, needs five more to secure the mayoralty of Garowe, although it was expected to receive more votes. The competition remains tight in Godob Jiraan and Dangorayo, where Kaah, Horseed, and Sincad parties received nearly equal votes. Kaah is likely to form alliances with these parties to strengthen its position.

Horseed party chairman and Puntland Minister of Environment Mohamed Abdirahman Faroole, a close ally of President Deni, emphasized that his party is not in opposition but a partner in his government.

The local council elections in the Nugal region are critical in shaping the political landscape, and the final results are eagerly awaited.
