Galmudug minister says latest round of Farmajo-Roble negotiations failed

Friday September 24, 2021

Mogadishu (HOL) - The Galmudug State Minister of Presidency, Omar Shido, has said that talks between President Farmajo and Prime Minister Roble have failed recently.

The state minister made the announcement through a statement posted on his Facebook page on Friday morning.

"As you may know, the President of Galmudug State of Somalia, Ahmed Abdi Kariye (Qoorqoor), has been working on resolving the Ikraan Tahliil case, which has caused a great deal of controversy between President Farmajo and Prime Minister Roble. The efforts of the President of Galmudug over several stages, sometimes lasting almost 18 hours, ended in failure tonight."

The Galmudug minister did not say what prompted the meeting's failure, just that the Prime Minister faction had shown maturity in the talks but that the President would not concede on key points.

Shido said that Galmudug has not abandoned mediating the talks.

"Galmudug stands for resolving any disputes that hinder development, elections and security. We will be part of any effort that the Somali government puts forth.

Galmudug President Ahmed Abdi Kariye Qoorqoor, South West President Abdiaziz Laftagreen and Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Mursal have been working to end the Farmajo-Roble dispute in recent days after a first meeting between the PM and President failed.

President Farmajo and Prime Minister Roble remain at loggerheads as the international community call for an immediate resolution to the political standoff that risks derailing the federal electoral process.
