Security Minister meets with Ikran Tahlil's family

Tuesday September 21, 2021

Mogadishu (HOL) - Somalia's Federal Minister of Internal Security Abdullahi Mohamed Nur received Ikraan Tahliil Farah's mother and other members of Ikraan's family in his office in Mogadishu on Tuesday.

The Minister and Family Ikraan Tahliil discussed how to best get justice for Ikraan Tahlil, who the family believes is still in the hands of the Somali National Security and Intelligence Agency.

Members of the Ikraan Tahliil family, led by Qali Guhad Mohamud, Ikraan's mother, asked the Minister of Internal Security to allow a peaceful demonstration to demand justice for their daughter.

The minister accepted the Ikraan Tahliil family's request.

Abdullahi Mohamed Nur, the security minister, said that Ikraan Tahliil's family shares his daughter's grief and is saddened by the family's plight.

"I first would like to express my sorrow over the loss of Ikraan Tahlil.  I declare that you are free to hold peaceful demonstrations as every citizen has the right to hold a peaceful protest in accordance with Article 20 of the Constitution. "

Nur added that the demonstrations should not be disruptive to other citizens and asked protestors not to damage property or burn tires.

The minister also said that anyone who obstructs the peaceful demonstration allowed by the Ikraan Tahliil family would be no different from the suspects in the Ikraan Tahliil Farah case.

On Monday, Qali addressed the media during a rally where she called on President Farmajo to stop politicizing her daughter's case for his personal gain.

PM Roble appointed Abdullahi Nur as the new security minister nearly two weeks ago during a power struggle with the President. He was sworn into office by Somalia's justice minister with the PM in attendance. Somalia's Speaker of Parliament declared the appointment illegal as did the immediate former security minister Hassan Hundubey Jimale.
