The World Bank-sponsored project will see more than one million animals vaccinated to prevent cross-county disease transmission. Governor Ali Roba launched the project on Thursday. He said pastoralism is the residents’ main economic activity.

The governor added that the vaccination will make animals resilient in the face of tropical diseases. Departemnet of Health director Abdi Mohamed, who is also the vaccination team leader, said 600,000 doses of the vaccine have been distributed.

Goats, cows and sheep will be vaccinated. The director said the vaccination will run for 20 days in all the six subcounties. Mandera has teamed up with the World Bank to vaccinate 700,000 livestock against foot-and-mouth and pneumonia.
