Following a lengthy discussion during its weekly meeting on Thursday, the Somali cabinet unanimously approved the independent constitutional committee which composes of five members including high profile law experts.
They are: Aisha Gelle Dirie, Professor Hassan Omar Mahad-Alle, former deputy prime minister Osman Jama Ali (Kalluun), Dr Mohamed Abdalla Saleh and Dr. Hassan Hussein Hajji.
Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Farah Sheik Abdulkader said at the end of the cabinet meeting that his office had spent much time in the formation of the independent committee, thanking the cabinet members for allowing the committee accomplish the tasks at hand.
Somali Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheik Ahmed who was chairing at the cabinet meeting praised them for the unanimous approval of the independent constitutional committee.
“It is a successful moment that the cabinet approved such committee which will revise the national constitution and I praise the political subcommittee and the constitutional ministry for the formation of the independent committee “said the Prime minister adding that the endorsement was a great step forward.
Meanwhile, the cabinet sent sympathy to the government and the people of Turkey for the loss of Turkish Airlines Somalia office security chief, the late Saadettin Dogan who was gunned down in the centre of the capital Mogadishu on Tuesday.
Yesterday, President Hassan Sheik Mahmoud ordered security officials to hunt and arrest the killers of the Turkish national, but perpetrators have not yet been arrested.
