Mogadishu, Somalia (HOL) - Just days after the resignation of former Somali internal security minister, the prime minister of the Federal Government of Somalia Abdiweli Sheik Ahmed has asked defence Minister Mohamed Sheik Hassan Hamud to embrace the responsibility of local security temporarily.

The appointment is mainly intended to cover the gap until Somali Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheik Ahmed can name a successor to the position.

“The defence minister will be responsible for maintaining local security before I will announce the new minister and we are very hopeful that he will deal with all matters relating to the country’s security” the Prime minister said.

Former Minister of  National Security Abdikarim Hussein Guled resigned following Al Shabab attack on Somali parliament last Saturday.
