Al Shabab militants said that they have no co-operative relations with ONLF rebels in Ethiopia.

The denial comes several days after the governor of the South-western region of Bakool Mohamed Abdi Tall accused the Ethiopian rebels of fighting alongside Al Shabab militants in the region.

“The Mujahideens have no ties with ONLF and that was a false accusation from those who are not ashamed of telling lie—you know that ONLF was outlawed in the areas under Al Shabab control” the group’s military wing spokesman Abdulaziz Abu Musab told the media.

“Al Shabab and OLNF do not share the same ideology, because the ONLF are fighting for political interests and we are fighting for Islam, so due to those different ideologies we cannot fight alongside each other” the militant spokesman explained.

He claimed that his fighters have killed more than 100 Ethiopian soldiers in the recent attacks on the Caato village near the border with Ethiopia.

The ONLF themselves denied any links with Al Shabab, saying their fighters had never crossed the border into Somalia.
