Mr Wafula Wamunyinyi said Thursday the AU was going to deploy personnel to police stations in Mogadishu.
Mr Wamunyinyi added that the police officers from Nigeria and Sierra Leone were going to assist their Somali counterparts in boosting security in the country’s capital.
“The AU police will help the Somali police in all 16 districts of the Somali capital,” he said.
Addressing journalists in Mogadishu, the AU official underlined that security has to be stabalised after Al-Shabaab terrorists were pushed out of the capital by African Union Mission in Somalia (Amisom).
On the same occasion, Mr Wamunyinyi introduced the incoming Force Commander of the Amisom Lieutenant General Andrew Gutti who will replace General Fred Mugisha.
He added that Amisom has secured the whole of Mogadishu and will now concentrate on helping the Transitional Federal Forces take over other parts of the country still under the control of Al-Shabaab.
