Under the direct supervision of the FSCO for Mogadishu or in his absent the LSA for Mogadishu or the Head of UNDP Mogadishu, the Radio Operator will perform the following principal functions for a 24/7 radio room in Mogadishu which will serve as the UN radio room for the Area. Each operator will function in rotation to ensure that the radio room is staffed 24 hours.
· Operate radio networks, telex/fax machines and receive and dispatch their messages;
· Type, distribute and log properly all incoming/outgoing radio/telex/fax messages to concerned UN personnel/Registry;
· Maintain chronological files for all incoming and outgoing telexes, facsimile and radio messages;
· Maintain properly all radio network, communication equipment;
· Perform maintenance and minor repairs on radio, telex/fax equipment;
· Maintain contact with UNCAS Coordinator/ICAO and apprise UN Agencies of flight arrivals/departures;
· Maintain communication security at all times;
· Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications and Experience: Completion of secondary school education; recognized certificates in radio communication; at least two years’ experience in telex, facsimile and radio operations; good typing skills; knowledge of computer applications; proficiency in the Somali language and good knowledge of English.
