AMISOM Force Commander, Major General Nathan Mugisha, has strongly condemned an attack on Wednesday afternoon at a civilian house near the base camp. He described the attack as cowardly and an act of desperation meant to divert the public from several internal wrangles that the extremists are experiencing in the wake of the so-called recent merger.

A mortar fired at a civilian house injured 3 children and an elderly woman as hundreds of Somali patients were waiting nearby to enter the main AMISOM compound. The four wounded who received treatment from the AMISOM Hospital are said to be out of danger.

AMISOM peace-keepers did not sustain any casualties as the motive of the attacker might have been. The Peacekeepers offer free medical assistance to the population thrice a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Speaking from the AMISOM Level II hospital after the incident, General Nathan Mugisha said “This is a demonstration of the extremist inhuman character and anti people attitude. Such a cowardly and desperate attack is unacceptable and cannot be tolerated. We urge the public to ignore them and continue shunning their violent character that has no respect for life.”

The attack follows a series of repeated intimidations made publicly by the extremist’s warning the population to stop co-operating with AMISOM.
