Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali Police Force in Mogadishu’s
Garasbaaley district have arrested four young men accused of posting a video on
TikTok that allegedly insulted the President of the Federal Government of
Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
The suspects were identified as Omar Isse Salad, Mahad Omar
Yirid, Amin Mohamed Hassan, and Abdisalan Eenaanshe Ibrahim.
According to police, the video “openly insulted the
President of the Republic, undermined the honor and dignity of the head of
state, and violated the Constitution and laws of the country.” Authorities said
the men are in custody and will be brought before the competent court.
“The videos they posted on TikTok were seen openly insulting
the President of the Republic, which hurts the honor and dignity of the head of
state, and violates the Constitution and laws of the country. The suspects are
in the hands of the police, and will be brought before the competent court in
accordance with the law,” the Somali Police said in a statement.
The police also urged the public to refrain from “acts of
misrepresentation, insults, and violations of the dignity of national
institutions,” warning that anyone committing such offenses will face strict
legal consequences.
The arrests come after the videos insulting President Hassan
Sheikh Mohamud circulated widely on social media in recent days.
