El-Dheer (HOL) - The Somali National Army (SNA) on Saturday
afternoon displayed weapons and prisoners captured from Al-Shabaab militants
during the recent battle in El-Dheer district of the Galgaduud region.
Two militants captured alive were presented to the media in
handcuffs, with military officers assuring that they would be treated in
accordance with the law before being transferred to the Military Court.
The display was attended by senior military officials,
including the commander of the 21st Division of the SNA, Colonel Mohamed
Dhagaweyne, and the commander of the 1st Division of the Gorgor Commandos,
Saahid Jama Farah Jareere.
During the event, officers also presented a cash reward to a
soldier credited with stopping a vehicle packed with explosives that Al-Shabaab
had planned to use in seizing the district.
The death toll of Al-Shabaab militants killed in the
El-Dheer clashes has risen to 71, after authorities discovered additional
bodies of the attackers, according to District Commissioner Abdirahman Ahmed
Omar.
The battle, which lasted several hours, also left casualties
among government forces. The Ministry of Defence confirmed that six soldiers
were killed and 14 others wounded.
