Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on
Saturday inaugurated the new Intelligence and Reconnaissance Center of the
Somali National Army (SNA) in Mogadishu, a move aimed at strengthening the
country’s defense and security capabilities.
President Mohamud described the facility as a symbol of the
government’s commitment to developing national defense institutions. He noted
that the advanced technology installed at the center would significantly
enhance military operations and support strategic planning.
The President commended the Ministry of Defence and SNA
Command for their efforts, saying that every achievement reflects the
resilience of the Somali people and the bravery of their armed forces.
Following the inauguration, President Mohamud visited the
Ministry of Defence, where he was briefed on the successes of the Somali Armed
Forces and allied local forces on key battlefronts, particularly in Galgaduud
and Lower Shabelle regions, where troops have dealt significant blows to
Al-Shabaab.
According to the Defence Ministry, more than 30 militants,
including senior commanders, were killed in El-Dheer, and several notorious
Al-Shabaab figures known for targeting civilians were captured. Residents told
Hiiraan Online that militant bodies remained scattered outside the town,
highlighting the scale of the group’s losses.
Earlier in the day, members of the Somali Federal Parliament
and senior officials visited the Somali army hospital in Mogadishu, where
soldiers injured in Friday’s El-Dheer battle are being treated. The lawmakers
thanked the wounded troops for their sacrifice and pledged the government’s
continued support to the national army.
