Baghdad (HOL) – The Somali Police Chief, Brigadier General
Asad Osman Abdullahi, met with his Iraqi counterpart, Lieutenant General Saad
Khalaf Badr Al-Halfi, on Wednesday to discuss strengthening security
cooperation, police training, knowledge exchange, and counter-terrorism
efforts.
The meeting, held in Baghdad, was attended by Somalia’s
Ambassador to Iraq, Ridwaan Hirsi Mohamed, along with senior officers from the
Somali Police Force. Senior Iraqi police officials also took part in the
discussions between the two sides.
Lieutenant General Al-Halfi warmly welcomed the Somali
delegation and invited Brigadier General Asad for further talks to deepen
cooperation between the two nations. Somalia and Iraq maintain long-standing
diplomatic and religious ties, strengthened through their shared membership in
the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the United
Nations (UN).
The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts by both countries
to enhance their security and defense capacities as they continue to recover
from years of conflict and instability.
Officials described the new partnership as one aimed at
improving the professionalism and effectiveness of both police forces, with
future joint training programs and workshops expected to follow.
