Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali authorities, in collaboration with
Interpol, have arrested Jama Abdi Mohamud, the former director of Qardho
Hospital, and brought him to Mogadishu to face rape charges.
The Office of the Attorney General said on Sunday that an
investigation revealed Jama was involved in acts of rape, as well as recording
and sharing indecent images from incidents that occurred in Qardho on social
media.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, the suspect will
be transferred to a competent court as soon as possible to face justice.
The Somali government expressed gratitude to the Rwandan
government and Interpol for their assistance in the arrest and extradition of
the suspect to Somalia.
It remains unclear whether the Federal Government of Somalia
will transfer the case to Puntland’s judicial institutions, as the crime
reportedly took place in the semi-autonomous region.
Another suspect linked to the case is currently in custody
in Garowe, awaiting further legal proceedings.
