Kampala (HOL) — A group of Somali military officers has
graduated from a year-long, high-level training program in Uganda, underscoring
the deepening security cooperation between the two East African nations.
The graduation ceremony, held at a Ugandan military academy,
was officially presided over by President Yoweri Museveni and attended by
senior Somali and Ugandan officials.
The Federal Republic of Somalia was represented by
Ambassador Fardowsa Maxamed Qanyare, Somalia’s envoy to Uganda, alongside
senior officers from the Somali National Army (SNA), including Senior Colonel
Axmed Ise, Commander of Training, and Senior Colonel Cali Aadan Shuriye,
Commander of Protocol.
The Somali officers were among 498 graduates from several
African countries, including Uganda, Tanzania, Mali, the Central African
Republic, and Somalia. The intensive program focused on leadership, operational
command, and modern warfare tactics aimed at improving coordination in
counterinsurgency and peacekeeping operations.
Uganda remains one of Somalia’s most steadfast military
allies, contributing troops to the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia
(ATMIS) and providing ongoing support in training and professionalizing the
Somali National Army.
Officials said the latest graduation marks another milestone
in the broader regional effort to strengthen Somalia’s security institutions as
the country works toward assuming full responsibility for its national defense.
