Dodoma (HOL) — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud
attended the inauguration ceremony of President Samia Suluhu Hassan in Dodoma,
Tanzania, on Monday, joining other African heads of state, regional
organizations, and invited guests.
During the ceremony, President Mohamud emphasized the
importance of strengthening bilateral relations and regional cooperation
between Somalia and Tanzania. He also conveyed his best wishes to President
Samia and the Tanzanian people for continued peace, progress, and prosperity.
A day earlier, President Mohamud had congratulated President
Samia Suluhu Hassan on her re-election, praising her leadership and reaffirming
Somalia’s commitment to advancing regional peace and cooperation.
“Her victory reflects the trust and confidence of the
Tanzanian people. Somalia looks forward to deepening our brotherly ties and
advancing regional peace and prosperity,” Mohamud said in a statement released
by Villa Somalia on Saturday.
Tanzania’s electoral commission announced that President
Samia Suluhu Hassan secured 97.66 percent of the vote in last Wednesday’s
election, which was marred by controversy after leading opposition candidates
were barred from contesting.
According to Villa Somalia, President Mohamud is expected to
hold bilateral discussions with President Samia on regional affairs and
cooperation and will also meet with other African leaders attending the
ceremony.
