Garowe (HOL) — Two civilians were shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Saturday night in Garowe, the capital of Somalia’s Puntland regional state, according to the residents.
Local residents confirmed that one of the victims was a hotel security guard, while the other was a relative who was visiting him at the time. The victims were shot in the head and back by armed assailants who fled the scene immediately after the attack, according to hotel staff.
The killings occurred in a high-security area near key government facilities, including the Nugaal Regional Court and the offices of the regional administration.
Puntland police said they have launched an investigation and are pursuing the suspects, but no arrests have been made as of Sunday afternoon.
Relatives of the victims have reportedly refused to bury the bodies until authorities apprehend those responsible and bring them to justice.
