Mogadishu (HOL) – Unidentified gunmen shot and killed Abdullahi Sheikh Ahmed, the head of the Wadajir district's Halane branch, on Thursday night in Mogadishu, Somali officials confirmed.
The attackers, armed with pistols, fled the scene after fatally shooting the local administrator.
No group has claimed responsibility for the assassination.
The Wadajir district administration condemned the killing and described Abdullahi Sheikh Ahmed as a dedicated civil servant who played a vital role in the district’s development efforts.
“The deceased was a hero characterized by talent and honesty, who worked tirelessly for the development of the district. He was a strong administration pillar and the development process's right hand. Unfortunately, he was killed by an unjust hand, but his achievements and efforts will not be forgotten,” the statement read.
Authorities say security operations are underway to track down the perpetrators.
The killing comes at a time when Mogadishu has seen a notable decrease in targeted assassinations of government officials and security personnel in recent months, following intensified security operations by Somali forces.
