General Sahal Abdullahi Omar, commander of the Somali National Army’s (SNA) Land Forces, alongside Hirshabelle Vice President Yusuf Ahmed Hagar and other senior officials, visits frontline troops.
Beledweyne (HOL) — General Sahal Abdullahi Omar, commander of the Somali National Army’s (SNA) Land Forces, visited frontline troops in Qoryaale, Hiiraan, on Monday.
The visit, which included Hirshabelle Vice President Yusuf Ahmed Hagar and other senior officials, extended to Halfooleey, a strategic area on the border between Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle. There, the delegation met with local fighters from the “Xaq u Dirir” (Justice Defenders) militia, a community-based force playing a key role in securing the region. General Sahal praised their dedication and pledged increased government support for local defence forces working alongside the national army.
The general also spoke about the government’s efforts to improve medical care for wounded soldiers. His remarks follow a recent visit by Somalia’s Minister of Health to the Somali Military Hospital, where officials announced plans to expand healthcare services, including additional medical supplies, vehicles, and enhanced treatment facilities for injured personnel.
Somalia’s counterterrorism operations have received continued support from international allies. On February 25, the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) conducted a precision airstrike against al-Shabaab in Al-Kowsar at the Somali government’s request. The strike was part of efforts to disrupt militant activities and assist Somali forces in stabilizing contested areas.
