Mogadishu (HOL) — President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud hosted a
high-level meeting at Villa Somalia on Wednesday, bringing together former
presidents, prime ministers, parliamentary speakers, and other national figures
to discuss Somalia’s political future.
The gathering was held as part of the ongoing National
Consultation Forum, which aims to build consensus on key national priorities,
including democratic governance, constitutional reform, and security.
According to the Office of the President, the forum focused
on three major areas: completing the constitutional review process,
transitioning to a direct electoral system, and enhancing efforts to defeat
terrorism.
President Mohamud emphasized the importance of inclusive
dialogue and the value of institutional memory in shaping a unified national
vision.
“Bringing together former leaders demonstrates our
commitment to collaborative governance and nation-building based on shared
wisdom and experience,” the president said.
The National Consultation Forum is viewed as a strategic
platform for aligning federal and regional priorities, reinforcing the
constitutional framework, and promoting inclusive, transparent political
processes.
President Mohamud reaffirmed the federal government’s
commitment to steering Somalia toward direct elections and a more accountable
political system. He also called for urgent, coordinated efforts to combat
terrorism and strengthen national security.
