Garowe (HOL) — The district commissioner of Eyl in the Nugaal region, Faysal Khaliif Wacays, was seriously injured Saturday in a knife attack allegedly carried out by a local youth leader, according to security sources.
Officials said the commissioner sustained a deep wound to his throat and was transported to Garowe for urgent medical treatment. At the time of the incident, he was reportedly without bodyguards.

The suspect, identified by sources as the chairman of the
Eyl District Youth Association, is believed to have carried out the attack in
retaliation for his dismissal from the post.
Authorities arrested the suspect at the scene. He is currently being held at Eyl District Prison. Security services have not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.
The motive remains under investigation.
