LONDON, United Kingdom (HOL) — Police have launched a murder investigation after a 27-year-old woman was found fatally injured on Chadwell Heath Lane in Romford early Saturday morning.
The victim, identified as Zahwa Salah Mukhtar, was discovered around 5:30 a.m. on August 16. Police said she suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene despite efforts from paramedics. Officers confirmed they were called at 5:34 a.m. to reports of an assault.
Metropolitan Police said four men have been arrested in connection with the investigation. A 35-year-old man was detained on suspicion of murder, while two others, aged 21 and 22, were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. A second 35-year-old man was arrested on Sunday evening, also on suspicion of assisting an offender. All remain in custody.
Detectives said those involved are believed to have known each other and described the killing as an isolated incident. Investigators confirmed that Mukhtar had been with a group of people in the Palatine Road area of Hackney (N16) in the hours before her death, and they are appealing for witnesses to come forward to help reconstruct her final movements.

The case is being led by the Metropolitan Police Specialist Crime Command (Homicide). A cordon was established on Chadwell Heath Lane outside the Chadwell House Residential Care Home, where Mukhtar was found, and officers erected a white forensic tent in the driveway. Police also cordoned off parts of nearby Little Heath Park as forensic teams examined a vehicle and collected evidence in clear plastic bags.
Mukhtar’s family, supported by specialist officers, released a statement describing her as a “kind and loving person with high aspirations in life.”

“Zahwa was a kind and loving person with high aspirations in life and her presence brought warmth to those around her. She was dearly loved by her family and friends. Zahwa’s tragic loss has left us heartbroken, and she will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her memory will live on in our hearts forever.”
Detective Chief Inspector Phil Clarke, who is leading the inquiry, appealed for information. “We are keen to understand the events prior to Zahwa’s death. We would like to speak with anyone who was with Zahwa and who may have any information that may help us understand her movements on that day.”
Superintendent Clare McCarthy said police were working with local authorities, faith leaders and community representatives to provide reassurance. “The community has been deeply affected by Zahwa’s death, and we are committed to working together to ensure people feel safe, heard and supported.”
Police have urged anyone with information to call 101 quoting CAD 1625/16Aug, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111.
