Dhusamareb (HOL) — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived Tuesday in Dhusamareb, the capital of Galmudug state, t, launch development projects, review preparations for regional elections and advance military operations against al-Shabab
The president was welcomed at the airport by Galmudug President Ahmed Abdi Kariye, senior officials, and hundreds of residents who gathered across the city to greet him.
Officials hope the trip will accelerate coordination between federal and regional forces in central Somalia, where al-Shabab has remained active despite recent military setbacks. Dhusamareb has served as a central staging ground for security campaigns and federal meetings in recent years.
Hassan Sheikh is expected to inaugurate Galmudug’s new parliamentary headquarters and open several other infrastructure projects in the state capital.
Authorities placed the city under heightened security, deploying heavily armed troops along major roads and key government buildings to safeguard the president’s stay.
