Mogadishu (HOL) - Puntland security forces, in coordination
with the Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) and Interpol,
have confirmed the arrest of former Qardho General Hospital Director Dr. Jama
Ildab, who is wanted on rape charges.
Authorities said Ildab was detained in Kigali, Rwanda, on
Monday after traveling from Djibouti via Qatar. He had previously been hiding
in Addis Ababa, where Puntland had issued an arrest warrant.
A Puntland delegation will travel to Rwanda next week to
facilitate his extradition to Garowe for trial. Officials dismissed earlier
reports that he was arrested in South Africa.
Security agencies said several other suspects linked to the
case are in custody, and all will be tried together. Ildab is accused of
committing multiple rapes days after being dismissed from his hospital post.
Authorities say they possess video evidence recorded by one of the victims.
