Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali security forces repelled an al-Shabab attack on a security checkpoint in Mogadishu's Kahda district late Friday night, local residents reported.
The attack, which began with two explosions, was followed by nearly an hour of intense fighting.
Casualty figures remain unknown, as district officials have not yet provided an update.
Security forces launched operations across several neighbourhoods in Kahda on Saturday morning in response to the assault.
Residents described being startled awake by the initial explosions, which set off the confrontation between al-Shabab militants and security forces. The situation remains tense as authorities continue operations in the area.
