Baidoa (HOL) – At least 12 al-Shabab militants, including foreign fighters, were killed in a clash in the Qansah Dhere district of Somalia's Bay region, according to military officials.
Southwest Darwish officials confirmed that foreign militants were among those killed but did not disclose specific numbers or further details.
The regional and federal forces, in collaboration with local militias, have intensified military operations to reclaim areas still under al-Shabab's control in the Bay and Bakol regions.
In a related operation in April, Somali forces killed at least 70 al-Shabab fighters and wounded 30 others in northern Mudug, near the town of Harardhere, which had been recently liberated.
