Mogadishu (HOL)— A Quran teacher has been arrested in
Mogadishu for allegedly strangling a 17-year-old girl in the Warta Nabada
district following a security operation, police said.
The suspect, identified as Abdiazis Osman Mohamed Saddam,
was taken into custody for the murder of Ma'ido Mohamed Ahmed, a teenager whose
body reportedly showed signs of torture.
The arrest was made by the Banadir regional police, who
confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and the accused will face trial
soon.
"The Warta-Nabada district police unit apprehended
Abdiazis Osman Mohamed, who is accused of strangling the late Ma'ido Mohamed
Ahmed," said a statement from the Banadir police. "The investigation
is still underway, and the case will be referred to the competent court."
Local media reported that the victim’s family is seeking
justice, with her sister describing the body as having been subjected to
torture.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that the suspect may have had
romantic feelings for the girl, though the family has not officially commented
on this claim.
