Bosaso (HOL) - Puntland regional administration has
reaffirmed that Bosaso airport is secure, with both domestic and international
flights landing as usual, just days after the airport was temporarily closed
following a warning from the Puntland Security Force (PSF).
In a statement on Monday, the Puntland Ministry of Aviation
confirmed that the airport is fully operational and that there are no security
threats at Bosaso airport.
The ministry reported that planes from both inside
and outside the country had landed and taken off safely the previous day.
The Ministry of Aviation also dismissed reports claiming
that no flights had landed at the airport for several days.
However, it was confirmed that some airlines had refused to
land at Bosaso, citing security concerns. The Puntland Security Force (PSF)
maintains a military base near Bosaso airport, which has led some airlines to
fear that planes landing there could be potential targets.
Last week, the PSF issued a warning to airlines using Bosaso
airport and ordered nearby residents to evacuate, citing a dispute over the
airport's management. The PSF accused the current airport administration of
preventing wounded soldiers from using the facility and demanded that control
be handed back to the previous management. The PSF emphasized that the airport
should be accessible to all people in Puntland.
