Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali security forces in Jubbaland repelled an Al-Shabab attack on Buulo Haji village near Kismayo, a strategic area liberated from the militant group just months ago.
The spokesperson for Jubbaland regional forces, Major Mohamed Farah Dahir, reported that Al-Shabab launched a fierce assault on army positions outside Buulo Haji, but the militants were defeated, sustaining heavy casualties.
Despite Al-Shabab's claim that they had captured the village and killed six Jubbaland soldiers, Major Dahir refuted these reports, asserting that the militants did not breach the army's defences on the outskirts of the village.
"Two Jubbaland soldiers were killed, and two others were injured in the battle, but our forces remain in control of their previous positions," he added.
In July 2024, Somali government forces, along with Jubbaland's Darawish troops, killed over 100 Al-Shabab militants following attacks on Buulo Haji, Harbole, and Mido in Jubbaland, which were seized earlier this year. Major Dahir confirmed that 135 militants were killed in those attacks.
