The agreement was signed during the African Development Bank's annual meeting in Nairobi. Somalia’s Finance Minister, Bihi Iman Egeh, and the bank's Vice President, Dr. Beth Dunford, signed the agreement.

Egeh emphasized the importance of the funding, noting its role in combating the country’s recurrent droughts. “We are very pleased to have secured $18 million from the African Development Bank. The total budget for this project is $35 million. Somalia has received more than 50% of the funds, which will be used to tackle droughts, floods, and boost agricultural production,” he said.

The African Development Bank’s annual meeting continues in Nairobi from May 27-31.
