Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met
with the Russian Ambassador to Djibouti and Somalia, Mikhail Golovanov, in
Mogadishu on Monday.
The meeting focused on security, social, and humanitarian
issues.
President Mohamud expressed his gratitude and appreciation
to the government and people of Russia for their generous support in Somalia’s
HIPC debt relief process.
The Somali government did not provide further details about
the meeting between President Mohamud and the Russian Ambassador.
In March, Somalia secured the cancellation of 99% of the
debt it owed to members of the Paris Club of creditor nations. Countries
including the United States, Japan, and Russia canceled more than $2 billion of
Somalia's debt.
