Mogadishu (HOL) — A female student was fatally shot today by government forces near the Milk Factory in Mogadishu, according to local reports.
The victim, Muno Mohamed Hiirey, was travelling in a BL car when she was hit by gunfire from soldiers stationed in the area. Hiirey was studying medicine at the University of Mogadishu and was slated to graduate later this year.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the involved soldiers quickly fled the scene. This incident contributes to a troubling pattern of violence attributed to government forces in the region.
Hiirey’s family has vocally demanded justice for her death, refusing to bury her until their demands are met. “Our daughter was killed by government soldiers while she was near a military camp in Kamiro. She was a beacon of hope for our family and her future was bright. We urge swift action to bring those responsible to justice,” a family spokesperson stated.
The family's refusal to hold a burial until justice is served underscores the community's increasing frustration with the government's handling of military conduct and public safety.
