"I want to inform the Somali people that without the current Somali Parliament, the government could not have secured relief from the arms embargo, achieved debt forgiveness, or gained entry into the East African Community.
You all know that these achievements would not have been possible with the previous administration."

Prime Minister Barre addressed accusations against his administration, claiming that no members of either house of Parliament have solicited bribes from him since they approved the government.

Further in his speech, Barre expressed the government's commitment to advancing achievements in security, politics, economics, and social sectors through a strategic program based on six pillars aimed at promoting good governance and sustainable development.

Barre affirmed his administration's dedication to conducting the first federal election based on direct votes from the people, which he noted as a central element of the country's political reform efforts.
