Mogadishu (HOL) - The Somali military court sentenced Sufyaan Sheikh Ahmed, also known as Takeye, and two members of his party to various sentences on Monday for propagating extremist ideology.
The court stated that Takeye's party, Talo-kunool, was spreading twisted ideologies and propaganda against religion, the country, and the government, as well as encouraging the public to follow his Talo-Kunool Party. Sufyaan Sheikh Ahmed Takeye was sentenced to two years of probation.
The second man sentenced was Yassin Ahmed Mohamed Abdulle, a member of the National Army who joined Takeye's group online and spread messages on WhatsApp against the government. Security forces apprehended him on September 28, 2023, and the court announced that Yassin was removed from the National Army.
The third man, Mohamed Abdulqadir Ali Noor Sandheere, joined Takeye's group online. According to the court, he tried to mislead security forces by claiming to be an al-Shabab surrenderer in order to join Takeye in prison. He was arrested on December 20, 2023.
The court also released Mohamed Abdulqadir Ali Nur Sandheere from prison, according to the Chairman of the Somali National Armed Forces military court, Hassan Ali Nur Shute.
Sufyaan Takeye, was arrested in Nairobi, Kenya, on September 28, 2023, through joint security cooperation between Somali and Kenyan intelligence agencies.
A few years ago, Takeye gained notoriety when he introduced his four wives on social media. In several interviews, he asserted that he is the leader of the Talo-kunool party and advocated for changing the flag of Somalia and implementing Islamic law as the country's governing system.
