Mogadishu (HOL) - The Somali Bureau of Standards seized a container containing 249 cartons of tobacco at the Mogadishu Seaport on Sunday as part of the anti-drug measures in the capital.
The Somali Bureau of Standards director, Mohamud Elmi Dirshe, told local media that the agency had handed the container to the Somali police forces. However, he did not mention whether the security forces had arrested the drug owners.
"We seized this shipment of narcotics on 23/03/2024 at the port, which is dangerous to public health and is prohibited from being brought into the country," he added.
The agency also warned the people in businesses against importing drugs that could affect the security and well-being of the community.
The seizure comes a week after the agency seized expired flour at the Mogadishu port, which was later handed over to the police.
