Mogadishu (HOL) - Police in Mogadishu have arrested several government forces after they opened live ammunition on protesters at Sinai Market in Mogadishu on Saturday, killing one protester and injuring another.

The protesters were reportedly demonstrating against the dismissal of an official in the local government of the Banadir region.

Banadir Police Chief Moalin Mahdi stated, "Anyone who fired at the protestors has been arrested. The case has been sent for investigation. We hope that the judiciary and the court will address this case."

The police chief emphasized that harassing the public is unacceptable, warning the people of Mogadishu against holding demonstrations without government approval.

"I am issuing a final warning to those accustomed to holding violent demonstrations in the capital. We cannot tolerate what occurred today," said Commander Macalin Mahdi.

However, the parents of the deceased boy are demanding justice from the Somali government.
