Mogadishu (HOL) - Former Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo returned to Mogadishu on Friday after 16 months to participate in ongoing debates on constitutional amendments.
"Today, I have returned to the capital, Mogadishu, where we continue our efforts to strengthen the unity and solidarity of our people. At this critical juncture, we must join hands and set aside political differences," said Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.
As a member of the House of Representatives, Farmajo has already voiced opposition to the government's move to amend certain provisions of the constitution without consensus.
Several former leaders, politicians, and authorities from Puntland State urged President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to reconsider his plans for constitutional amendments. However, their pleas were dismissed as President Mohamud informed lawmakers that the process was non-negotiable.
