Kismayo (HOL) — Dr. Abdullahi Ali, a Somali American from Portland, Maine, has announced his candidacy for the presidency of the Jubaland administration for the 2024-2028 term. He emphasizes his commitment to significant and early changes for the region.

Ali's campaign slogan, "The Light of Jubaland for the Future," reflects his vision for the region. On his campaign website, draali4jubaland.com, Ali outlines his mission to lead Jubaland with integrity, inclusiveness, and a commitment to justice. He aims to empower citizens, foster unity, and build a resilient society through efficient governance, strong security, and sustainable development.

Several elected officials from Maine and Minnesota have endorsed Ali, praising his hard work and integrity. They noted his dedication to southern Somalia and refugee camps in Kenya, where he has made significant contributions.

During the election announcement forum, Ugas Mohamed Ugas Gedi praised Ali's understanding of Jubaland's needs, emphasizing his ability to lead economically and politically. Ali, with a business and charity work background, expressed his readiness to support Jubaland's leadership.

Murshid Barud, a prominent elder from Minnesota, stressed the importance of the presidency being based in Kismayo and ensuring the administration reaches all regions within Jubaland. He called for overcoming obstacles that hinder progress.

Dr. Abdirashid Aabi, another Somali scholar from Minnesota, discussed the agreement between the federal and regional governments in Somalia known as "stay away," expressing doubts about the upcoming election in Jubaland. Ali emphasized that his campaign debate would focus on significant issues reflecting the change he envisions.

Ali stated, "I am not a stranger to Jubaland. I have extensive knowledge of all aspects of life there, having lived both in the countryside and the city. I understand the needs of the community and where improvements are necessary. My goal is not to replace an individual but to fix a system."
