Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has reorganized the Somali National Army (SNA) by creating four new specialized commands to enhance military capabilities.
The Ministry of Defense announced the restructuring as part of a broader strategy to reform Somalia's defence sector and enhance the professionalism of its armed forces. The reorganization introduces specialized units aimed at improving operational efficiency and addressing specific military needs.
Brigadier General Ahmed Abdullahi Sheikh will lead the SNA Special Forces Command, focusing on high-risk operations and counter-terrorism efforts, particularly against al-Shabaab militants. Colonel Ahmed Isse Ahmed will head the SNA Training Command, which is dedicated to developing the skills and expertise of SNA personnel.
Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Abdullahi Nur Beeryare will lead the SNA Reconnaissance & Intelligence Command, which is tasked with gathering crucial intelligence and conducting reconnaissance missions. Lieutenant Colonel Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud will command the SNA General Support Command, which provides logistical and support services.
