Somalia’s government and Jubbaland forces advance on Al-Shabaab in Badhaadhe

Kismayo (HOL) — Federal government forces and the Jubbaland administration have moved to support Badhaadhe district in the Lower Jubba region, according to reports on Wednesday.

The allied forces plan to seize control of Badhaadhe district, which has been under Al-Shabaab’s control for some time. Al-Shabaab fighters vacated most of their positions in the district early Wednesday after learning of the military’s presence in Badhaadhe.

On Tuesday, joint forces took control of the Al-Shabaab-held area of Bulo Haji, a move praised by Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre.

Large swathes of Jubbaland remain a stronghold for Al-Shabaab, but the federal government and Jubbaland administration are now focusing efforts on eliminating the group from the region.
