Puntland Police Chief accuses Puntland Security Force (PSF) of repeated attacks on police officers

Bosaso (HOL) - Puntland Police Commander Major General Muumin Abdi Shire has issued a strong complaint against the Puntland Security Force (PSF), accusing them of repeatedly targeting the police.

The commander specifically accused the PSF of attacking the central prison in Bosaso, where two police officers were wounded, and they forcibly took away two police officers who they accused of causing security problems in Bosaso on Wednesday.

"We are telling the people that we are sorry for the incident, that it is a major crime that has occurred constantly. We are telling the president of Puntland that we have a full complaint about this, and that the police force cannot work in such a situation in Bosaso," said Muumin.

Major General Muumin emphasized that the PSF forces are consistently targeting the Puntland police, noting that PSF attacks in Bosaso have resulted in deaths and injuries among the police. He also accused the PSF of landing illegal weapons at the Bosaso port.

However, the command of the Puntland Security Force (PSF) has denied the accusations made by the police chief. In a press release on Thursday, the PSF stated they did not authorize the incident in Bosaso. Instead, they claimed that the act was committed by members of their forces whose relatives had been arrested.

The statement also mentioned that the PSF members involved in the incident have been arrested for questioning. Also, the PSF accused the police commander of making false accusations to divert attention from the kidnapping of PSF spokesman Mohamud Jamal Doho in Garowe. They called on the police commander to immediately release their spokesman.

The Puntland Security Force (PSF) is an armed force not under the current Puntland administration. President Deni once attempted to remove their commander, but rejecting this removal led to serious conflict in Bosaso.

The PSF, which receives support from the United States, is managed by General Mohamud Osman Diyano, the brother of General Asad Osman Diyano.
