Al-Shabaab surrounded by government forces in Ruunirgood, Middle Shabelle region

    Mogadishu (HOL) — According to reports, Security forces in the Middle Shabelle region surrounded the Al-Shabaab fighters in the Ruunirgood area on Monday to drive them out of their strong defensive positions.

    An army official stated that the forces are currently stationed in Ruunirgood and awaiting orders from government officials to advance.

    Several Al-Shabaab fighters reportedly abandoned their positions in Ruunirgood. The group has already been ousted from key areas and districts in the Middle Shabelle region that they had controlled for a long time. 

    Security officials expect Al-Shabaab to be removed entirely from Ruunirgood in the coming hours.
