The offensive targeted Buulo Xaaji, Baar Sanguuni, and Harboole, following a desperate attack by Al-Shabaab militants on government positions. Somali officials reported that government forces, who were well-prepared, repelled the assault and inflicted heavy casualties on the militants.

According to the Somali National Army, the operation also led to the seizure of a large cache of weapons, including RPGs, BKM machine guns, and AK-47 rifles, which were in the possession of the militants.

"Our forces, in collaboration with Jubbaland's Darawish, successfully neutralized over 80 militants who posed a threat to our country's security. This operation demonstrates our commitment to eradicating Al-Shabaab and ensuring peace in the region," said Colonel Ahmed Ali, a spokesperson for the Somali National Army.

The Somali government, with support from international partners, emphasized its dedication to eliminating the militant threat. "We remain steadfast in our mission to protect our people and our land from these terrorist elements," said a government representative.

Meanwhile, Al Shabab claims it has killed 71 soldiers, captured POWs and seized weapons and vehicles in the attack in Lower Jubba.

The operation comes after the Somali government regained control of these areas from Al-Shabaab. The road between Kismayo and Afmadow, previously disrupted by the militants, has been reopened, according to Jubbaland authorities.

As the operation continues, government forces are gathering the bodies of the militants and pursuing those who managed to flee. The Somali government did not disclose any SNA casualties during the operation.
