Baidoa (HOL) - Somali armed forces, supported by local militia forces, recaptured Jamecada village near Burhakaba district in the Bay region on Saturday.
The rural village, located approximately 25 kilometres from Burhakaba district, has been under al-Shabab's control for the past years.
Military officers told state-owned media that the army destroyed checkpoints and other sites belonging to al-Shabab during the operation. They added that operations against al-Shabab in the Bay region are ongoing.
The operation comes two days after ten al-Shabaab members were killed in a battle with the national army and local militia near Murkudka in the Hiiraan region. The clash erupted when the 39th Battalion of the 5th Brigade of the 27th Division and the 10th Commando Battalion of Gorgor, backed by local militia, attacked a wooded area in Murkudka.
