The ceasefire follows intensive peace efforts led by Deputy President Adan and other Jubaland leaders who travelled to Luuq to mediate the conflict—their unwavering commitment aimed to reassure the local population and restore stability.

The recent clashes have caused significant displacement, forcing thousands of families to flee their homes. Over ten people have been killed, with many more injured.

Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre has called for an immediate end to the hostilities, emphasizing the humanitarian crisis and the urgent need for resolution. The federal government has been actively addressing the conflict and warned about its broader implications.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud accused Al-Shabaab of instigating the conflict to disrupt ongoing military operations. The Federal Government warned that these clashes might be a strategic effort by Al-Shabaab to undermine security efforts in the region.

Jubaland officials have increased security measures in Luuq to prevent further escalation and have warned against actions that might disrupt the peace process. Efforts are ongoing to safeguard civilian properties and to avoid community incitement.
