Jigjiga (HOL) -Two Somali people were killed, and several others were wounded when gunmen attacked a bus in the town of Awash in the Afar regional state in eastern Ethiopia on Sunday.
The bus was carrying passengers, including seven Somali people from the Somali regional state in Ethiopia, to Addis Ababa when the attack occurred, according to local sources.
The two men killed were identified as Khadar Elmi Cige and Mawlid Mohamed Abdi, while several others, including Ismail Muhammed Musa, Sayid Muhammed Musa, and Ali Hussein Jama, were wounded. Some of the victims were prominent figures in business in the Somali region of Ethiopia.
Local officials have accused armed groups from the Afar region of the killings of the Somali people, though this claim has not been independently verified.
Somali people traveling from Jigjiga to Addis Ababa are advised to use air travel, as longstanding border clashes between Ethiopia's Afar and Somali regions have escalated over the past few months without any signs of talks to resolve the conflict.
