Prime Minister Barre calls for immediate end to deadly inter-clan conflict in Luuq district

    Mogadishu (HOL) -  Somali Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre has called for an immediate end to the deadly inter-clan conflict in the Luuq district of the Gedo region, stating that the federal government is prepared to take urgent measures.

    Prime Minister Barre instructed the Armed Forces to prevent wars and civil conflicts, emphasizing that such conflicts provide opportunities for al-Shabab to maintain control in the remaining areas of the country.

    "Discussion and reconciliation are the keys to peace and development. I urge all parties involved in the conflicts to stop immediately and avoid falling into the trap that the Khawarij have set to harass our people further," Barre said.

    He urged the Ministry of Interior to expedite the national reconciliation plan to address the factors leading to instability. Dozens of people have been killed and wounded in the conflict in Luuq district, which started last week.

    Jubbaland regional state leader Ahmed Mohamed Islam Madobe also called for an immediate cessation of hostilities. He warned soldiers against participating in the tribal war and threatened strict action against any soldier found to be involved in the conflict.
